Olympic Torch Relay & Those Famous Streetlites

Well... I been me didn't want to miss the action surronding the Olympic Torch Relay... Not Botherd about the Olympics mind but the Torch Relay is something that i probably will never see again so i took the change to go and see it, Not only because of those Stagecoach Streetlites surronding it. The plan was to go to college on the morning and then go see the torch in my lunch brake, Before any of this could happen i with eye spotted Streetlite 3 a good 4 hours before anything kicked off sat in the work/ delivery entrance to College. It then became stuck in the car park but apart from that it was a plesent suprise for me. The photo to the Right shows the aforementioned Streetlite in Colleges Delivery entrance car park, This really did impress me getting a Streetlite before the event had even reached Barnsley, Two hours before the expected arrival of the torch i took my place, On the wall across from the Shop and Barnsley Chronicals offices. Here i waited not seeing 1 vehicle until a South Yorkshire Police Interceptors Vaxhall Insignia passed (As seen on TV). This was followed by a South Yorkshire Police BMW X5 type Vehicle. As time went on it became very apparent more and more people we're arriving, Out of College, Schools among other places. Then more and more people got onto and sat on the wall i was sat on, With a little help from me telling them to go around and up the steps onto the grass, So i had my camera and a bottle of Coka Cola and after a few texts to Adam Barber and also the one known as Ian Wiseman it was about time for the Olympic convoy to start up, So as South Yorkshires Police Helicopter (SY99) was spotted overhead the tention started to build, Just after i throught Mmmmmm could get a good shot from here a group of School Children changed that and stood under the wall i was sat on, So that was clear shots out the window. Anyway as the Convoy approched i managed to get another Streetlite, This time number 2 and then that was followed by the first of the two Kent Based, Buzzlines Travel Van Hool T911 Alicrons which are smaller then the normal T911s showed up, This been BT08BUZ. There are two in the convoy, The other been BT11BUZ. Both the
Buzzlines T9 Alicrons are to a small (Not sure on the correct lenth) however both we're new to Cronin, Cork and carred Irish Registration Marks BT08BUZ (08 C 2911) and BT11BUZ (11 C 2911) respectivly. The Vehicles we're turned out extreamly well and i was impressed with both of these BT08BUZ is seen in Barnsley outside Barnsley Chronicals Offices moving with the torch and its team towards Barnsley College, Best shot i got of ether T911 but even with the people in the path, I was happy with the photo shown on the Right, Also in the convoy after the Police bikers and the Met Polices BMW Patrol Cars where some Olympic Torch liveried BMWs, A Coka Cola branded truck and a Samsung branded vehicle, Another intresting addition was the Press Truck, A Makeshift vehicle converted to seat members of the Press and TV Camera crews. This was the vehicle before the running and the torch.
After enjoying the relay in Barnsley i decided to head over to Sheffield to see the torch there. I finished college and went down to get the Train, Northern Rail provided, To my releaf after missing 158860 in hope of one, Class 144 Pacer 144010 on the Leeds- Sheffield Stopper Service, After arriving in Sheffield i waited to photo both units on offer that hour from First Transpennine Express, Those been 185126 towards Cleethorpes and 185119 towards Manchester Airport. After this i met Adam and Tom and we went onto Arundal Gate (AG) To see the Olympic Torch Relay, Ofcourse some bus spotted and photoage was in order first. As the torch got closer people kept arriving and getting into the sprit, I myself was still photoing buses right up until the road closed, Finally getting shots of the Scanias and M.A.Ns branded from Ecclesfield Depot. This i was very happy with, Above is a photo of the Coca Cola Iveco with all its lights on running down AG. This was the location we we're photoing buses before the relay and stood there to photo the relay too. This was another excerlant idea from Mr Barber as perfect shots we're easily on hand. So After about 100 odd bus photos, The Olympic Torch was back, Is had passed throught Chapletown, South Yorkshire as my Train (144010) went over the viaduct. With the crowds blocking roads buses we're stuck, 4 87s we're down there, a 265, the 35A and about 3 75s. Our driver gave a 4 tone on the viaduct and now it was about to arrive in Sheffield. The next two Photos show Olympic Streetlites 4 & 5, Both In Sheffeld, 4 On Arundal Gate and 5 up near the somewhere. I chased this around Sheffield with Thomas Cousins and he made me run about Sheffield covering about 1
and Half Mile we caught up with 5 and after this had another walk around Shefield looking for the other Streetlites. We didn't manage to find but i still managed to get 5 (1-5) in the day. The Stagecoach owned Wright Bus Stretlites (Wheel Fowards) Are heading to Stagecoach South Wales after the Olympics and will be the first of there kind at Stagecoach Group anywhere appart from an allover white Demonstartor vehicle of the same type that is been used allongside the relay just incase one of the branded Streetlites changes its mind about been famous. The vehicles are the first ive noticed Stagecoach purchase without the Blue coloured Stagecoach Standard interior. These have dealer spec interiors apart from the seating as far as i know. Maybe its just a Wright Bus Thing. The plan for these interesting vehicles in to have them repainted into beachball 'Wounders how the will look in beachball'. Personally i like the Olympic Livery for the Torch relay and it looks good on the Streetlites, And the BMWs The Stagecoach Streetlites have been the stars of the Relay so far transporting the Torch Team and also the runners themselfs on the day.

The Olympic Torch its self passed in a flash, And apperntly if you blinked you would miss it but tbh i manged to photo it so not sure how that would work... Anyway the runners stood out a mile in the White tracksuits,  Well they wouldn't in the snow but it wasn't snowing. As it wasn't snowing the event saw massive crowds and the atmosphere around the full route was livly. I must say i realy enjoyed to torch relay, Or i wouldn't have gone back out to Sheffield to see it again, Probably would have... Wanted as many streetlites as i could get. Overall i enjoyed my day, And got Class 144 Pacer 144014 on the Sheffield-Leeds express home, A Pacer doing 60, Mmmmm not the Class 158 Express DMU i really expected to be sat on but never the less i enjoyed it very much and the day was great, Below is a series of photos taken on the day to try and show the most of the day, The article sort of ends now so for now, I'm out and all that (Yes i did add Bus Photos taken on AG into the mix :D

Stagecoach Olympic Changes

I have looked at trying to bring together some form of list of Stagecoach fleet changes dueing the olympics in 2012, As i'm aware First South Yorkshire will not loose any vehicles to the olympics and First Games Transport, Please feel free to comment on this if any of its wrong including the above regarding First. At Stagecoach the only vehicles moving to the olympics are from Barnsley (19559-66), There currently been repainted into Beachball and loosing 66 Barnsley Townlines Brandings. Therefor Stagecoach are moving 7 or 8 Scania Deckers (Expected to be 15411-7 The Omnidekkas or 15411-6 & Two Scania N230 Enviro 400 Vehicles), This is all expected shortly, First Ecclesfield have swapped 33349 (R49 CHD) for ADL Enviro 300 22612-5 which are current been repainted out of Your Fourty Three brandings. Reserve Fleet Dennis Dart SLF 34082/34047/50/53 are expected or at Holbrook, 33082/ 33241/5/ 33418 & 34104 are expected or at Barnsley, 34084/6/7 expected or at Rawmarsh with some other Dennis Dart SLF East Lancs Sprytes going into Full time service, These allready at the depot. From Rawmarsh to Barnsley are expected to be Dearne Link Branded 22545-8, These are to release 22541-4 to other areas fleet, Possibly North East. 22636-9 from Holbrook are also expected to go the same place. From Chesterfield to other fleets (East & North East) are expected to be Scania ADL Evniro 400 15690-2, Replaced by Volvo B10BLE 21133-5 which are expect to see use on Routes 70 (Chesterfield-Marstin Moor/ Killamarsh), 77 (Chesterfield-Worksop) & X17 (Sheffield-Chesterfield-Matlock). 33234 is also noted operating in Chesterfield on Saturday last. Other than this, 1 M.A.N E300 is expected to go from Chesterfield To Barnsley and and another 3 M.A.N E300 are expected to shift from Chesterfield to Ecclesfield... Not sure which ones will untametable go. 22559 was reported at Ecclesfield bus had apperntly moved Back to Chesterfield after use at Ecclesfield in exchange for 22615. E400 19564 is the first expected to go down to London as this is currently in for Repaint, Expect a Decker from Sheffield Ecclesfield to Barnsley shortly in other words, I will most likely end up changing this around as something shown above will probably change, Most i expect to be correct.

DDA Destinations

Stagecoach around Yorkshire have started updating certain Destination displays to show the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) Compliant Destination displays. Firstly certain Trams we're updated loosing the scrolling route information and just showing the turminus for example:

Yellow:                     Blue:                          Purple:
Middlewood             Halfway                     Herdings
Meadowhall             Malin Bridge              Cathedral

The Tram destiation displays look quallity and much much (Intentional repeated word) better then beforehand as shown on Tram 119 which is seen sat in Herdings Park turminus. This should have a Purple Cathdral Destination showing however its been set to Yellow Meadowhall, This is where the Purple trams operate to however a destination/ colour change normally takes place at Cathedral to aviod confusion amoung passengers, Not sure why tbh as showing Meadowhall on Purple blinds wouldn't really confuse me, I still know its going to Meadowhall. This has also taken place in Barnsley on buses. Certain Buses operating route 22 (Barnsley-Dodworth Rd-Gilroyd) now show GILROYD    22 and don't have the scrolling route information, Again i think it looks better then before. The photo below shows ADL
Dart SLF ADL Enviro 200 36179 of Wakefield Rd Depot showing the updated 22 destination desplay with new large destination wording, Looks much better then the old destinations with the scrolling via points which you did well to read when the bus wasn't stationary ahead of you in for example a Bus Station, Mind people still asked the driver if the service wen't here, there or both. Passengers for the Hospital have a reputation for getting on every bus that goes up Market Hill and asking if that bus goes to the Hospital.

Stagecoach Updates/ Olympic movments

Firstly 47465 (YN07OSC) is now most certainly a Barnsley based bus, Operating the 12/43/44 (Barnsley Athersley South (12) Pogmoor (43/44) today but Mr M still without it for haulage, Don't see many of the M880s these days on the 1 apart from Sundays. Olympic fleet movements include 34086/7 (S486/7BWC) To Rawmarsh, Spotted these at Gleadless Townend Tram Stop from Supertram 119 on Saturday. 33349 (R49 CHD) has now swapped 22559 (YN57MYC) moving from Ecclesfield to Chesterfield & Chesterfield to Ecclesfield respectivaly. 22559 been reported in service, 21133-5 (T549-551AUA) have been moved from Barnsley to Chesterfield for olympic cover allong with 20930 (R930XVM). Allong with this article ive attached a photo of Volvo B10BLE Wright Renown 21133 (T549AUA) this been a very recent photo with the bus operating route 21 (Barnsley-Cubley), They suited this route very well but i wouldnt mind a trip on the X17 on one... Now then, Sheffield to Matlock on one of these beasts.

Stuck ! Behind A Human Wall

Well, When i set out today i never expected to become stuck behind a human wall, After getting Optare M880 M.A.N Solo 47726 (YN10AGX) into town with massive cooling fan and then hanging around wacthing rail replacements until it was time to catch the 21 (Barnsley-Penistone-Cubley) up to Cubley and after some nice looking B10M Van Hools where seen from Goodyear & J&M Coaches, Barnsley it was reveled to me my 21 this week would be 36180 (YN60FKR) An ADL Dart SLF Enviro 200 vehicle, Most certainly not one of my favorit vehicles around an Enviro 200 but at least this is the best on the bacth at Barnsley. As we got closer to Penistone around Oxspring a group of childen boarded the service and had issues with there passes. After sorting this out we we're about 2 minutes down and when we got to the Top of Green Rd, Penistone there we're crowds at both sides of the road lining the pathments. The driver then annoced that he was confused and hadn't been informed of any disruptions after asking in the depot. As we got closer into Penistone Town Centre and its Church and Market Place where the bus
turns around and heads back towards Cubley the crowds lining the streets got bigger and bigger, This was because of the Majors Parade and unsure of what time it was to start the driver annoced he would try his best but wasn't sure about getting around due to double parking, Most certainly a problem for 21s before you slam an event into the mix. So he said he would try is best but he wasn't magic. So me and another passenger who normally uses the same board allong with another passenger hoped for the best. As the bus pulled off stand and turned the cornor to head towards Cubley there it was... An Wall of people blocking the road completely, So the driver slowed and then stopped but as we did and certain people started to shift the parade started and they all rushed back into the road, We we're going nowhere fast so the driver shut down 36180. 1 passenger left and walked to her destination however after asking the driver if we would get to Cubley, He said he would when he could so i stuck with 36180 and driver as did the other regular passenger. As the three photos above show we were stuck there the last of the three showing the crowd ahead of the bus.

After taking a few snaps of 36180 while i could and was up close i wacthed the parade standing with 36180. After a while a que formed behind the bus, With its hazards on, Mainly older drivers who dare not drive the wrong way down the one way system or dare not get past the rigid Scania truck delivering flowers furter down the road towards the Railway Station. One photo i took was of the townline branding above the windows. Intresting colour choice by Stagecoach but i think its something to do with the line colour on the route list/ network map. After a good 15/20 minutes the parade passed and we we're able to move again, So after talking to the driver and finding out he was going to try and go into the estate i managed to find the other regular passenger and she re-joined the service. As we pulled away i took a photo of the crowds on the roads and lining the kerbs, I was sat towards the back of the bus to Penistone but sat behind the driver when we left Penistone towards Cubley. As we went into the estate all went well until Chaplefield Dr. Where the parade was heading towards us. We we're forced to stop the parade and reverse back to turn around. The driver did this very well and credit to him he was an excerlant driver and delt with the situation very well, After leading the full parade with 36180 (Laughing) we then turned towards Cubley and went down the main road. The driver then said he didn't want to go any faster because it would affect his GreenRoad score, Fair play to him... GreenRoad went live at Barnsley on Wednesday. After arriving at Cubley Top i went for my Sunday dinner. Mmmmmm Dinner, Thanking the driver as i did he then headed back into Penistone and up towards Barnsley, Most likely missing a board on the 22 (Barnsley-Dodworth-Gilroyd). However these things happen and it made for a very intresting trip on the 21. Came home in the car as per normal on Sunday and Penistone was clear by 14:00. The bus been the 12:00 from Penistone to Cubley getting there about 12:28. The Driver was excerlant and did very well to aviod getting in more traffic or stuck again and certainly impressed he didn't quit at Penistone and go back to Barnsley missing Cubley. The Driver knows who he is and creadit to him indeed... Stagecoach should be thankfull to have such a driver, Thats me for now 1 sunday dinner and 4 and half hours after this all took place, I will update some Stagecoach changes tomorrow regarding olympic fleet etc, Thank You.

One Most Certainly to Remember !

On The Morning of Wednesday 06/06/12 while awaiting Mr Thomas Cousins to meet me in Barnsley i decided to take a trip to Hemsworth, 22801 (V801DFV) on route 47 (Barnsley-Upton)... This was always the plan, I like the V---DFV bacth of M.A.N 18.220 Alexander Dennis ALX300 Vehicle at Barnsley, 22801/11/12 (V801/11/12DFV) been the vehicles in question. However it was after arriving at Hemsworth and turning back towards Barnsley that it became memorable... The bus supplied, M.A.N 14.220 East Lancs Myllennium 39621 (YT03AYF) on route 35 (Barnsley-Pontefract)... Bingo ! After getting going i decided to film an onboard video for my you tube page which went all but planned, The first one was just people getting on or off so i started again, Went well until Brierley when a big group of elderly passengers boarded. After filming i moved over the the right back seat so i could have a wee bit of legroom, This is where the set of 4 seats is located with two facing towards the rear of the vehicle, As we travelled on towards Cudworth the bus started to fill until finally around Shafton the bus became standing room only... Not helping was that all windows we're closed, The group of elderly passengers making short work of that however will the seats empty infront of me at this point i didn't mind, In Cudworth the passengers then filled all 5 forward facing seats on the back, Now at this point i'm starting to overheat myself, Forgot poor 39621 which i could smell, let allone fell the heat been gerenated by the engine. At Cudworth a passenger... Rightly so shouts down the vehicle to an elderly couple forced to stand that there we're two seats remaining towards the rear... So they came up at sat infront of me, There isn't much to complain about... They had no right to stand however with the windows closed it soon became a sweat box !!!, We sat in traffic all way up from Cudworth to Oakwell and this didn't help, I was sweating like a glass blowers arse at this point but not wanting to leave YT03AYF early i choose to bear with it and carry on to the Interchange. I did so and upon reaching the Railway Station most passengers left the bus, After sitting in a bit more traffic and loosing a bit more sweat we reached the Interchange... There really never is a dull moment on 39621, YT03AYF, I will upload aforementioned video to my you tube channel tomorrow.

Updates regarding New Vehicles

At Barnsley, Stagecoach Yorkshire have very recently branded Optare Solos 47297/300 (YJ55BKZ/BLN) allong with 47298/9 (YJ55BLF/K) for Townline Route 1 (Barnsley-Mapplewell & Staincross), Its rumours the new ADL Enviro 200 vehicles are for Townline Route 1 however i can see them personally used on Dearne Link 219 (Barnsley-Doncaster) or 21/22 (Barnsley-Dodworth-Penistone-Cubley) but we will have to wait and see where the Enviro 200s end up.

At Chesterfield, Optare Excel L1180 35006 (YN51VHP) has been unbranded out of Your-Fourtyfour livery. I'm Told from a reliable soruce that The Current ADL Enviro 300 are to be reallocated onto routes 44/44A (Chesterfield-Sheffield) with the Current ADL Enviro 400s on route X17 (Sheffield-Chesterfield-Matlock) been reallocated onto routes 43/43A (Chesterfield-Dronfield-Sheffield). The New ADL Enviro 400 are expected to be used on route X17.

Solo Movement !

Barnsley currently have Optare Solo M880 47465 (YN07OSC) has been operating into Barnsley since Tuesday. It has no Destination Blind equipment and has been noted operating Route 6 (Barnsley-Kendray) on Tuesday & 12/43/44 (Barnsley-Pogmoor/ Kingston Circle) today. This has joined sister bus 47464 (YN07OSB) At Barnsley. 47465 is easily to ID, This is the only Optare Solo M880 at Barnsley with smaller fleet numbers which can be found on the front under the window and also on the rear sides above the windows. The vehicle also carries the Stagecoach Logo on the rear glass and its located between the Destination blind and Registration Plate. I'm unsure at this time weather this is a replacement or transfer to Wakefield Rd. I wouldn't be supprised if its been transferd for one of Wakefield Rds Optare Solo M920s have Chesterfield allready have some of this bacth 47285/7/92 (YS02WWC/D/YN03ZXM)  where as Barnsley operate 47282-4/6/8-91/93 (YS02WWA/WVZ/WWB/RHE 194/YN03ZXH/J-L/P). The aformentioned 47465 is the only Optare Solo M880 MAN of its type at Chesterfield but would join 47464 at Barnsley and also 47723-7 (YN10AGO/U/V/X/Y). For Now I'm out but i will update the 47465 situation in the fleet news at the end of the month.
